GeoDI Lab Undergraduate Researcher Receives UROP Award

We are delighted to share that Mathias Kreuziger, an undergraduate researcher in the GeoDI Lab, has been awarded a highly competitive Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) award from the University of Minnesota’s Office of Undergraduate Research. This university-wide program supports impactful faculty–student research collaborations across campus, and Mathias’s proposal was selected for funding of $1,800.

TEXT: Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

Mathias will continue working in 2026 under the supervision of Prof. Di Zhu on his UROP project, “Examining Isolation and Human Mobility on Minnesota’s Native American Reservations”. His project will explore how geographic isolation shapes human mobility patterns within and around reservation communities, contributing to a deeper understanding of spatial inequities and mobility challenges in Minnesota.

Before receiving the UROP award, Mathias joined the GeoDI Lab as a CLA Dean’s First-Year Research & Creative Scholar (DFRACS) in Spring 2025, where he demonstrated strong initiative and curiosity in spatial analysis and human mobility research.

Congratulations to Mathias on this well-deserved achievement! We look forward to supporting his continued growth and contributions to the lab’s work.
